Corian Worktop Deep Night Sky

The ultimate guide to Corian® kitchen worktops

If you’re considering an acrylic worktop for your new kitchen, you’ve probably already heard of Corian®, as it’s the original acrylic worktop brand. But is it any good? We’re here to help you decide.

This guide tells you everything you need to know about Corian® kitchen worktops. Including who makes them, their benefits and design capabilities, the colours available and how to get them installed.

Who makes Corian® kitchen worktops?

Corian® is made by a company called DuPont. They’re a large manufacturer that invented acrylic surfaces back in the 1960s. Due to having a patent on their product, for 30 years, they were the only acrylic solid surface manufacturer, so Corian® became well-known and popular.

Corian® is made from two-thirds natural minerals and one-third acrylic resin. And as well as for worktops, it’s used for a wide variety of applications in homes and commercial buildings, such as flooring, wall cladding and building facades.

Why choose Corian® kitchen worktops?

Everyone wants their kitchen worktop to look fantastic. But it must also be practical and stand up to the wear and tear a busy kitchen throws at it.

So, let’s look at the benefits of a Corian® kitchen worktop to find out how practical it is:

  • It’s seamless

This is one of the features that has made Corian® so popular. Seamless means when two pieces of worktop are joined, the seam is virtually invisible. So, the whole worktop looks like one continuous piece, even around corners.

  • It’s repairable

Corian® is a tough material, but minor marks may appear on the surface over time. However, you can easily repair them, or a certified installer can do it if the damage is more serious.

  • It’s stain-resistant

Corian® is non-porous, so nothing can penetrate its surface to leave an engrained mark. Some strong substances may leave a surface mark if left for long periods, but they can easily be buffed out.

  • It’s impact-resistant

Corian® kitchen worktops are highly durable and can withstand the knocks and bumps of daily wear and tear. So, you don’t have to worry if you drop something heavy on the surface.

  • It’s food safe and hygienic

There’s nowhere for mould and bacteria to hide on a Corian® kitchen worktop, thanks to its non-porous surface and inconspicuous seams. So, when it looks clean, it really is clean!

  • It’s easy to clean

Once Corian® is installed, there’s nothing to do other than clean it with soapy water after use. No additional maintenance is required.

  • It’s long-lasting

Corian® comes with a 10-year manufacturer’s warranty. But it will last a lot longer than that.

One thing to be aware of, which is the same for all acrylic worktops, is that the surface can get scorched if hot pans are left on them. So, it’s best to protect the worktop with hot pan trivets. However, don’t panic if you accidentally scorch the surface because marks can be buffed out.

Corian® kitchen worktop design capabilities

If you’re looking for a unique design for your kitchen, you’ll need a worktop material that can be fabricated to create it. Corian® is a material that makes all the following features possible:

  • Corian® kitchen worktops can be any thickness, up to 100mm
Whether you want a thick worktop for a country-style kitchen, a slim worktop for a contemporary kitchen or something in between, Corian® makes it possible.

  • Corian® kitchen worktops come in a choice of 6 edge profiles
Corian® edge profiles have been designed, so there are styles to suit any kitchen design and your personal preferences.

  • Corian® kitchen worktops can be curved and shaped
If you want curved corner cabinets, a round sink or an unusually shaped breakfast bar, Corian® can be shaped to fit.

  • Corian® worktops and sinks
Undermount sinks, recessed drainers and drainer grooves give sink areas a beautifully blended-in look. Corian® is a worktop material that makes this possible. You can choose any brand of undermount sink, but DuPont® manufacture its own range of Corian® sinks. They’re available in various designs, colours and sizes to match or complement your choice of Corian® worktop.

  • Corian® kitchen worktops allow you to have a flush-mounted hob
A flush-mounted hob sunk into the worktop is perfect for a contemporary designer kitchen. Not all worktop materials are suitable for flush-mounted hobs, but Corian® is.

  • Corian® kitchen worktops allow you to have pop-up sockets
Pop-up sockets are hidden in work surfaces, ready to pop up when needed. They’re essential for kitchen islands where there are no wall sockets. Corian® is one of the worktop materials that makes this possible.

  • Matching Corian® upstands and splashbacks are available
Upstands and splashbacks are the perfect alternatives to tiles. They save kitchen walls from food splashes and give kitchens a beautiful, finished look. With Corian®, you can match the colour to your worktop or choose a colour that complements it.
