One of the many advantages of Dekton worktops is their effortless upkeep – they require no maintenance while offering exceptional resistance to stains, scratches, abrasions and high temperatures. In other words, they practically take care of themselves.
That said, following a few simple Dekton care guidelines will help ensure your worktop remains in pristine condition for years to come.
Follow these easy steps to maintain your Dekton surface and keep it hygienically clean and looking as good as new.
How to clean Dekton worktops
General cleaning
To clean Dekton, we recommend using warm, soapy water or Cif Actifizz cleaner with a green-and-yellow washing-up sponge.
Removing stubborn stains
Thanks to its non-porous surface, nothing will permanently stain your worktop. However, some substances, such as dried food, ink and red wine, are resistant to standard cleaners or, if left on the surface for a long time, may take more effort to remove. Therefore, we recommend using cream detergents with abrasive particles or solvents (acetone or a universal solvent), and we always recommend testing any new cleaner on a small area in a discreet place first.
Other safe cleaners
- Acid cleaning products, including any low-pH cleaners or descaling agents
- Alkaline products, including basic cleaning agents and ammonia
- Solvents, including universal solvent, turpentine (white spirit), acetone and alcohol
- Oxidants, including hydrogen peroxide and diluted bleach
Do not use specialist worktop cleaning products
There are many specialist worktop cleaners available that claim to enhance shine and protect your work surface. However, when it comes to caring for Dekton worktops, we recommend you do not use these, as they can lead to a build-up of chemicals on the surface that may damage your worktop over time.
Long-term Dekton care: a summary
Preventing chemical damage
Although highly resistant to chemicals, you should avoid prolonged exposure to harsh industrial cleaners or highly acidic substances, such as drain cleaners or oven degreasers. If a spill occurs, clean it up immediately with warm, soapy water to prevent potential surface damage.
Regular Dekton care for a like-new finish
While requiring minimal upkeep, regularly wiping down your worktop with a microfibre cloth and mild detergent will help maintain its original appearance. For the ultimate in Dekton care and added shine, buff the surface dry with a clean cloth after cleaning.
Protecting against heavy impact
While extremely strong, dropping heavy objects—such as cast-iron cookware—on edges or corners can cause chipping. Handling heavy items with care will help keep your worktop in perfect condition.
How to care for your Dekton worktop
Avoid knocks
When caring for Dekton, heavy knocks should be avoided in exposed areas, such as corners, edges and bevels. While the material is extremely durable, chips and cracks from heavy impacts on edges are still possible.
Avoid standing or climbing on your worktop
While it may be tempting, standing or climbing on your worktop should be avoided. Although highly durable, excessive weight or pressure can cause damage, particularly around edges and joints. Always use a sturdy step ladder for access to high areas.
Heat exposure
Dekton is highly temperature resistant, so you can place hot pans, baking trays and hot electrical appliances directly on the surface without extra protection. However, prolonged direct heat exposure (e.g., open flames) should still be avoided.
Avoid scratches
Although scratch-resistant, Dekton is not scratch-proof. So, while it will withstand everyday scratches and scrapes, we recommend using a chopping board when cutting with sharp knives.
