How to clean quartz: CRL Quartz® care and maintenance
CRL Quartz® is highly durable, with a resistance to scratches and stains that make it incredibly easy to clean and maintain. There are just a few things to be aware of to keep it looking its best.
Follow the instructions below to learn how to clean quartz worktops.
How to clean quartz worktops
General cleaning
To remove dirt or dust, wipe the surface with a damp cloth or paper towel and a small amount of mild soap or non-acidic cleaner such as CIF Actifizz. Afterwards, dry the surface with a cloth. Honed finishes are more prone to grease and fingerprint marks, so extra care may need to be taken.
Removing aggressive stains
CRL Quartz® has a non-porous surface, so nothing will permanently stain it. However, we recommend not allowing spills to harden and remain on the surface for long periods, especially wine, coffee, or anything acidic or alkaline-based. If this happens, scrape hard substances away gently with a small blade before cleaning the surface with warm soapy water. For stubborn stains, use a nonabrasive cleaning pad with a mild soap or stain remover, such as Bar Keeper: Friend Power Cream.
Please note, matt and concrete finish colours need a little more care than polished colours.
Take care when handling chemicals
Always check the instructions when using any chemical products on your worktop. Some chemicals may not be suitable for use on quartz, and some may need diluting. In particular, avoid exposure to:
- paint removers
- furniture strippers containing trichloroethane
- or methylene chloride
- nail polish remover
- highly alkaline (outside of 5-9pH) cleansers
If these chemicals touch your worktop, rinse away immediately with clean water.
Don’t use specialist worktop cleaning products
Many specialist worktop cleaners claim to enhance shine and protect your work surface. However, we don’t recommend using these for quartz. They can lead to a build-up of chemicals that can damage your worktop over time.
How to care for a CRL Quartz® worktop
Do not expose to heat sources
CRL Quartz® can withstand moderately hot temperatures for short periods, but its performance can vary. Therefore, we recommend always protecting the surface from hot pans, baking trays, deep-fat fryers, etc., with a hot pad or trivet.
Avoid scratches
Although CRL Quartz® is scratch-resistant, it’s not scratch-proof. So, while it will withstand everyday scratches and scrapes, we recommend using a chopping board when cutting with sharp knives.
