HI-MACS care and maintenance

HI-MACS worktops have many excellent properties that make care and maintenance a breeze. They’re stain and impact-resistant. But their greatest benefit is that they’re repairable. This means that if any minor marks are left on your worktop, you can simply buff them away.

Follow the instructions below to keep your worktop hygienically clean and looking like new.

How to clean HI-MACS worktops

General cleaning
To clean HI-MACS worktops, wipe the surface with water or a mild detergent and a cloth. To preserve the surface’s even finish, occasionally wipe it with a scouring agent.

Removing stubborn stains
HI-MACS surfaces are stain-resistant but not stain-proof, so some substances may require more aggressive cleaning. To remove stubborn stains, use an all-purpose cleaner and rinse with clean water. You can also use a bleaching agent (as long as it’s not left on the surface for more than five minutes) or a scouring agent on matte finishes.

Do not use acidic chemicals
Avoid using chemicals containing acids, such as methyl chloride or acetone, as they can cause discolouration. If acids come into contact with your worktop, rinse them away immediately with soapy water

How to care for your worktop

Protect the surface from hot temperatures
HI-MACS is not heat-proof, so hot saucepans, baking trays, deep-fat fryers etc. should not be placed directly on its surface. Instead, always use a hot pad or trivet. Also take care with HI-MACS sinks; when pouring hot liquids into the sink, run cold water at the same time.

Avoid scratches
Pointed or sharp objects can leave scratches on Hi-MACS worktops, so you should always use a chopping board when cutting with sharp knives. However, if you accidentally scratch the surface, minor scratches can be repaired by buffing them with an abrasive sponge or scouring agent. Deeper cuts may need to be repaired by a professional.
