Which Cosentino Stone Worktop Is Right For You?
Dekton, Silestone, Sensa or Éclos? A Homeowner’s Guide
Why your worktop choice matters
Your kitchen worktop is one of the hardest-working surfaces in your home. It needs to look beautiful while also standing up to high temperatures, spills, cutting, and the general knocks that come with daily life.
But not all worktops are created equal. And with so many materials and brands on the market, choosing the right one can feel overwhelming.
However, one trusted, global company stands out: Cosentino. They manufacture four of the most exciting premium worktop brands available: Dekton, Silestone, Sensa and Éclos. Four Cosentino stone brands with very different personalities.
In this guide we help you decide which one suits your kitchen, your lifestyle, and your priorities.
The company behind the surfaces: Cosentino Stone
Cosentino is a family-run business that started in Spain back in the 1940s. Since then, it’s grown into a global giant, and has led the way in innovative, sustainable and premium quality surfaces for decades.
From their current range, Silestone was the first, launched in 1990. It started as a quartz worktop brand and has evolved in recent years to be the first low-silica mineral surface.
Then followed Sensa in 2006 and Dekton in 2013. Its newest offering, Éclos, was introduced in 2024/25 and will be available in the UK in Autumn 2026.
Each brand has been developed to solve a different design and lifestyle need. But, whichever one you choose, you can rest assured that they all come with the same high manufacturing standards and sustainability commitments.
Cosentino’s sustainability credentials
Cosentino is committed to creating and manufacturing surfaces that are good for people’s lives, communities and the planet we live on. They do this in several ways:
- Using 100% renewable electricity in production thanks to opening one of the largest solar panel plants in Europe
- Using 99% recycled water in manufacturing
- Dekton is the only Cradle-to-Grave carbon neutral surface on the market, which means it offsets 100% of its CO2 emissions over the entire product life cycle
- They are increasing their use of recycled materials and are the only company with its own waste treatment and recovery plant
- They are leading the way in key research projects to develop a new generation of materials from renewable sources
When you invest in a Cosentino stone worktop, you’re investing in a worktop that’s built to last, from a company that takes its environmental footprint seriously.
Cosentino Dekton: the ultracompact powerhouse
What is Dekton?
Dekton is an ultracompact, sintered stone surface. It’s made from a sophisticated mix of natural minerals that are pressed under 25,000 tonnes of pressure in extreme heat using Technological Sinterised Particle technology.
This process mimics the way natural stone is formed in the ground. But rather than taking thousands of years, Dekton is created in hours. The process eliminates the micro-defects sometimes found in natural stone and creates virtually zero porosity.
Dekton key performance benefits:
- Extreme temperature and fire resistance: Contact with hot pans directly from the hob or oven, freezing temperatures and even fire won’t mark, discolour or crack the surface
- UV resistance: Colours won’t fade in sunlight. This is the only Cosentino stone suitable for outdoor kitchens
- Scratch, stain, abrasion and impact resistant: Dekton outperforms all standard porcelain worktops
- Zero porosity: Liquids wipe away without penetrating the surface
- Cradle-to-Grave carbon neutral: the only worktop surface in the world with this certification
Dekton colours, collections, finishes and sizes
Dekton is available in a wide range of sizes, including large-format slabs which are ideal if you want to cover a large area with no joins.
For worktops, slim 12mm thick slabs give a highly contemporary look, whereas a 20mm slab is best for modern and traditional kitchens.
Key collections include:
- Pietra Kode: Earthy and sophisticated tones inspired by Italian stone
- Pietra Edition: Clean, timeless and elegant colours inspired by the Mediterranean

Cosentino Silestone: used in kitchens worldwide for over 30 years
What is Cosentino Silestone?
Silestone is the brand that started it all and continues to evolve. More than three decades of investment, testing and refinement has made it one of the most trusted worktop materials in the world, and it’s now present in millions of homes across more than 100 countries.
Silestone was originally a quartz worktop material but in recent years it has evolved and is now a mineral low-silica surface. It’s made from premium and recycled materials using Cosentino’s revolutionary Hybriq+ technology.
Hybriq+ Technology: why it matters
Traditionally engineered quartz worktops contain very high levels of crystalline silica – a substance that’s safe once a worktop is installed but poses health risks during fabrication.
Silestone’s Hybriq+ technology (launched in 2020) dramatically reduces crystalline silica content and, since 2023, every Silestone worktop has been manufactured this way.
Depending on the colour, Silestone worktops now only have up to 10% or 40% crystalline silica, and they all include a minimum of 20% recycled materials.
Silestone key performance benefits:
- Resistant to impacts, scratches and stains: Which means it can withstand the everyday wear and tear of a busy kitchen
- Heat resistance: Silestone can withstand temperatures of up to 180°. It’s recommended that you use a trivet or heat pad for roasting trays and pans which are hotter than this
- A wide portfolio of colours available: Silestone offers colours and designs to complement the design of any kitchen, whatever the style
- The first low-silica surface: Independently verified that Hybriq+ technology complies with the highest environmental standards and maintains the same level of performance, durability and resistance as Silestone quartz
- Available with Integrity sinks: Match your sink and worktop for a seamless design

Silestone colours, collections, finishes and sizes
The majority of Silestone colours come in either a standard or jumbo slab size, meaning large surfaces can be covered with minimal or no visible joins.
They are all available in 12mm or 20mm thick slabs. 12mm is ideal for contemporary kitchens, while 20mm looks great in modern and traditional kitchens.
Key collections include:
- Le Chic: French-inspired veined designs exuding elegance and glamour
- Suma: Understated yet luxurious designs that are clean and refined
- Urban Crush: Bold, contemporary, urban-inspired designs and colours
- Ethereal: Translucent, light-filled colours with an elegant look
- Eternal: Timeless marble-effect classics
- Mythology: Rich, solid, statement colours
- Loft: Urban, industrial, raw material inspired designs and colours

Sensa by Cosentino: the beauty of natural stone without the worry
What is Sensa Cosentino?
Sensa was launched in 2006 as the only Cosentino natural stone option designed to answer the main objection most homeowners have about natural stone: the ongoing maintenance.
Each slab is real granite or quartzite, hand-selected from quarries around the world. But, unlike other natural stones, it’s treated with SenGuard: a revolutionary stain-resistant protection that’s integrated into the molecular structure of the stone. It’s not just a surface coating that wears off, so it completely removes the need for homeowners to regularly apply protection themselves.
Why natural stone is different
The best thing about natural stone is that every slab is completely unique. The movement, veining and character is formed by millions of years of geological activity, which means, no two slabs are ever the same. That individuality is irreplaceable. No engineered stone can fully replicate it.
Sensa key performance benefits:
- UV, scratch, and impact resistance: These are natural attributes of granite and quartzite stone surfaces
- Built-in stain-resistant protection: Cosentino’s revolutionary SenGuard protection is built into the stone’s molecular structure. So, oils, liquids and food stains can’t penetrate it
- No sealing required – ever: Simply use soap and water for day-to-day cleaning
- The only natural stone with a manufacturer’s warranty: Cosentino anti-stain natural stones come with a 15-year warranty, providing you with full confidence in the product

Sensa colours, finishes and sizes
Sensa is available in one slab size, suitable for all projects, and two thicknesses: 20mm for modern and traditional kitchens, and 30mm for an ultra-chunky look.
Colours are limited by what nature provides, but the colour spectrum is broad.
Key colours include:
- Light and neutral tones
- Warm and earthy tones
- Cool and silvery tones
- Dramatic dark colours
- Statement colours and designs
Each colour is available in one of three finishes: mirage (high gloss), leather (matte) and caresse (textured with rough and smooth areas).

Is Sensa Cosentino right for you?
Sensa is ideal for those who appreciate organic, artisanal luxury and want their kitchen to feel genuinely individual. Choose Sensa if:
- You love the irreplaceable beauty and individuality of real natural stone
- You’ve always wanted a granite or quartzite worktop but have been put off by the maintenance concerns
- You want a natural stone with the reassurance of a 15-year warranty

Cosentino Éclos: the next generation in worktop design
What is Cosentino Éclos?
Éclos is Cosentino’s newest surface (available in the UK in autumn 2026). It’s described as the next generation of mineral surfaces. Its first collection uses zero crystalline silica, and it’s made from up to 88% of recycled materials – the highest recycled content in the entire Cosentino range.
The key innovation is its INLAYR technology – a world first that creates genuine three-dimensional design through the body of the slab. Unlike every other engineered worktop, where the pattern is essentially printed on the surface, Éclos features layered depth, gradient effects and intricate veining that runs edge to edge.
INLAYR Technology: what makes it different
INLAYR technology uses advanced robotics, decorative engineering and tailored raw material combinations to build the design in layers from within the slab, working outwards.
This produces captivating depth, natural shading and organic movement that no other manufactured surface currently matches.
Éclos key performance benefits:
- Exceptional heat resistance: Can withstand temperatures up to 220°, so pans can be placed on it directly from the oven or hob with no damage
- Resistant to impacts, scratches and stains: To withstand the wear and tear of a busy kitchen
- The only zero crystalline silica* surface in the Cosentino range: And it uses up to 88% recycled materials and selected minerals
*(Contains less than 1% trace impurities)
Éclos colours, collections, finishes and sizes
Éclos is available in one slab size, suitable for all projects, and two thicknesses: 20mm for modern and traditional kitchens, and 30mm for a thicker appearance.
The debut Eclectic Veins collection features a palette of nature-inspired, layered designs. But this is just the beginning. As a new brand, the colour range will expand significantly.
Key colours include:
- Light tones with delicate veining
- Mid-tones with sophisticated depth
- Tones with a warm, earthy character
- Deeper, more dramatic naturalistic tones
Is Cosentino Éclos right for you?
Éclos is perfect if you want the very latest in design and technology. It’s ideal for keen cooks, eco-conscious homeowners and those drawn to natural aesthetics with modern performance. Choose Éclos if:
- You want the very latest in worktop technology. Something that’s unique, not a refinement of what already exists
- You love the look and feel of natural stone but want the performance of a modern engineered surface
- Heat resistance is a top priority (withstands temperatures up to 220°)
- You want the most sustainable choice in the range (contains zero crystalline silica and up to 88% recycled content)
Why professional installation is everything
Cosentino stone is a premium material, so the craftsmanship behind its fabrication and installation needs to be too.
Here’s where that craftsmanship really counts:
- Precision templating: Every millimetre matters. Laser measuring ensures a precision fit before a single cut is made.
- Cutting and fabrication: Cosentino surfaces need specialist diamond-tipped tooling and CNC machinery. Incorrect cutting can cause micro-fractures that worsen over time.
- Joins and seams: This is the most visible sign of expert vs amateur work. Skilled positioning creates near-seamless joins, whereas poor joins look unsightly and trap moisture and bacteria.
- Edge profiles: From a simple pencil edge to a waterfall or bullnose, edge work is skilled craftwork that transforms the finished look.
- Upstands and splashbacks: Matching the grain direction and pattern flow across pieces takes an experienced eye to get right.
- Protecting your warranty: Professional installation by approved fabricators is often a condition of the manufacturer’s warranty. An unqualified installer risks voiding it.

Frequently asked questions
Is Cosentino a good brand?
Yes, Cosentino is one of the most established and respected surface manufacturers in the world, with over 75 years of history and products now present in homes across more than 100 countries. Its brands consistently sit at the premium end of the market, and all four carry long manufacturer’s warranties. It’s also a leader in sustainable manufacturing, including being one of the only companies in the industry to hold Cradle-to-Grave carbon neutral certification for one of its products (Dekton).
What brands are Cosentino?
Cosentino manufactures four surface brands: Dekton, Silestone, Sensa and Éclos. Dekton is an ultracompact sintered stone; Silestone is a low-silica mineral surface; Sensa is natural granite and quartzite with built-in stain protection; and Éclos is its newest brand, featuring three-dimensional body design and the highest recycled content in the range. Each one is aimed at a different set of priorities, but all are manufactured to the same high standards.
What is better, Dekton or Silestone?
It depends on your priorities. Dekton outperforms Silestone on heat and scratch resistance and is the only option for outdoor use. Silestone offers a wider range of colours and is typically lower in price than Dekton, but that does depend on the colour chosen. Both carry a 25-year warranty.
Is Silestone the same as quartz?
Silestone started out as an engineered quartz product, but it has since evolved into something different. Since 2023, all Silestone is manufactured using Hybriq+ technology, which significantly reduces crystalline silica content and incorporates recycled materials. It’s now classified as a low-silica mineral surface rather than a traditional quartz worktop, but it maintains the durability and high performance of Silestone quartz.
Does Sensa granite need to be sealed?
No – that’s the great thing about it. Standard granite requires sealing every one to three years. Sensa’s SenGuard protection is built into the stone’s molecular structure rather than sitting on top as a surface coating, so it doesn’t wear off. Soap and water are all you need for day-to-day cleaning, and no further treatment is ever required.
What is Cosentino Éclos?
Éclos is Cosentino’s newest surface brand, due in the UK in Autumn 2026. Its standout feature is INLAYR technology – a world-first approach that builds the design in layers through the body of the slab, rather than applying it to the surface. The result is three-dimensional depth and veining that runs edge to edge. Its debut collection contains zero crystalline silica and up to 88% recycled materials.
What is the difference between Dekton and porcelain worktops?
Both are hard, dense surfaces, but Dekton is not the same as standard porcelain. It’s made from a wider mix of raw materials compressed under significantly higher pressure than porcelain. This gives it superior resistance to impact, staining and thermal shock.
What are the top durable worktop materials for heavy use?
For high-traffic kitchens, the materials that constantly come out on top are sintered stone (such as Dekton), engineered mineral surfaces (such as Silestone or Éclos) and sealed natural stone (such as Sensa). Of these, Dekton is widely regarded as the most hardwearing surface available. It’s virtually impervious to heat, scratches, stains and UV light. But for most busy family kitchens, any of the four Cosentino brands will comfortably handle the demands of daily life.
